WO1 Stephen K. Rivero, Conductor and Executive Officer of the 13th Army Band, recently completed two very well respected and sought after assignments in the music education field. In January, Mr. Rivero was selected by the Florida Band Association (FBA) to be the Florida Music Educators Association (FMEA) All-State Small School Honors Band Conductor at the annual FMEA conference in Tampa, Florida. The Small Schools Honor Band is made up of 128 High School band students representing all areas of Florida. Over the three days of rehearsal during the conference, Mr. Rivero developed a strong rapport with the honor band students while demonstrating master teaching and rehearsal techniques. The spectacular performance that resulted was a direct reflection of Mr. Rivero’s capabilities to prepare so many students with a varied level of skills and abilities.

WO1 Rivero was also invited to be the guest conductor for the 2010 Miami-Dade County Honor Band this past March. The All-County honor band is comprised of students from all over Miami-Dade County Florida that successfully met the requirements of an earlier audition. Mr. Rivero rehearsed with these students for a total of 12 hours before having to perform a very difficult program for the general public. The Honor Band’s performance came off as very professional, well rehearsed, and was well received by the audience.
