2008 Freedom Fest Celebration- 98th Army Band Saxophone Section
The informal portion began with SFC Manford welcoming thousands from the surrounding communities and states to Freedom Fest 2008. Commander CW2 Marvin Cardo took center stage and led the ensemble. Shortly after the welcome the 98th Army Band woodwind section opened the show with a powerful sixteen note passage located in the beginning measures of the Patriotic Opener by Bob Arnold, displaying their unanimity and sheer technique. The band continued to dazzle the audience with selections such as Midway March, Strike Up the Band, Mambo Hot, and Summon the Heroes just to name a few.

The US Anthem sung by SSG Salsbery signaled the beginning of the formal portion of the festivities. In the second half of the program the 98th Army Band rippled with thrill, authority and energy performing tunes such as Smooth, Feeling Good, Hero for Today, Wanted Dead or Alive, and New York, New York, bringing forefront the vocal skills of Retired MG Heinse, SFC Manford and SGT Greer.

The 2008 Freedom Fest celebration was indeed remarkably marvelous both in performance and in conception. Closing the formal portion of the celebration was the 98th Army Band Stage Band with Stars and Stripes Forever. After the final note the audience stood and heartily applauded the outstanding performance, when asked many of the spectators described the event as fun, spectacular, a sheer celebration of freedom.
