Roman Coliseum in Avenches
The United States Army Europe Band was featured in performances at the Aventicum Musicum in Avenches, Switzerland over the Labor Day weekend. Avenches, the former Roman capital of Germania, is rich in history and Roman ruins. The tattoo was performed in a first century Roman coliseum once used for gladiators to audiences in excess of 10,000. The tattoo performances included military bands from Switzerland, Britain, Latvia, and the Netherlands as well as a Swiss military equestrian unit.
The Rhine River Ramblers Dixieland Band provided the post tattoo entertainment for the evening of the opening night’s performance, to much acclaim from civilians and military musicians alike.
The USAREUR Fest Band performed pop tunes, marches and jazz for a large crowd of local residents and visitors, as well as a short parade through Avenches. Thousands lined the streets to watch the band.
Throughout their mission, the USAREUR band met with people from many different European nations, continuing their tradition of spreading goodwill and friendship across Europe.
