History

Lineage

Organized in the California National Guard and Federally recognized on 16 November 1921 at Oakland, CA as the Band Section, Service Company, 159th Infantry, an element of the 40th Division.

Reorganized and redesignated on 1 May 1940 as the Band, 159th Infantry.

Inducted into Federal service on 3 March 1941 at Oakland, CA.

(The 159th Infantry was relieved on 29 October 1941 from assignment to the 40th Division and assigned to the 7th Division. The 7th Division was later redesignated as the 7th Motorized Division and the 7th Infantry Division. On 23 August 1943, the 7th Motorized Division was relieved from assignment to the 7th Infantry Division).

On 18 May 1944, the band was reorganized and redesigneated as the 59th Army Ground Forces Band.

On 1 October 1945, the 59th Army Ground Forces Band was inactivated in Alaska.

On 17 May 1947, the band was redesignated as the 59th Army Band.

Consolidated with the 286th Army Ground Forces Band (see ANNEX), and as a consolidated unit was reorganized and Federally recognized on 19 October 1949 at Sacramento, CA as the 59th Army Band.

ANNEX

Organized in the California National Guard and Federally recognized on 20 March 1925 at Sacramento as the Band Section, Service Company, 184th Infantry, an element of the 40th Division (later redesignated as the 40th Infantry Division).

59th ARMY BAND

Reorganized and redesignated on 1 May 2940 as the Band, 184th Infantry.

Inducted into Federal service on 3 March 1941 at Sacramento, CA.

Relieved in June 1942 from assignment to the 40th Infantry Division.

Reorganized and redesignated on 10 January 1944 as the 286th Army Band.

Reorganized and redesignated on 12 May 1944 as the 286th Army Ground Forces Band.

Inactivated on 25 January 1946 in Hawaii.

Reactivated as the 59th Army Band, following World War II, in 1949.

Reorganized and redisignated as Det 9 STARC (59th Army Band), assigned to Headquarters, STARC, on 11 September 1998 and 23 June 2000.

Organized as Det 1 40th Infantry (59th Army) Band on 5 January 2005 and 1 March 2005.

Assigned to 100th Troop Command on 20 May 2010.
