The 2009 spring concert tour of the US Army Europe Band and Chorus served as a musical and cultural acknowledgement of Croatia and Albania as the newest members of NATO. In the moments before the concert, the President of Albania spoke to the audience in Tirana--Albania's capital city--recognizing the importance of "music as a universal language" and its unique ability to bridge nations and cultures.

In addition to USAREUR Concert Band & Chorus performances, the USAREUR Woodwind and Brass Quintets performed concerts and master classes in venues around the cities of Tirana, Albania, and Split, Croatia. To conclude the concert tour, the USAREUR Band & Chorus helped celebrate the rich musical history of both countries in the town center of Korneuberg, Austria, with the Militärmusik Niederösterreich--the Military Band of Lower Austria.

As further proof that "music is a universal language," the interactions of the USAREUR Band & Chorus with students of Albanian and Croatian music schools and with the soldiers of the Military Band of Lower Austria will have a lasting impact and demonstrate positive partnerships between the United States and these nations. This spring concert tour alone, the Army's premiere musical ambassadors in Europe performed in three countries and delivered American music to enthusiastic audiences of thousands.
